Abstract: In the Oeste Region of Continental Portugal, in 1998, a survey was conducted in horticultural protected crops to study the biodiversity of aphids and parasitoids in greenhouses under organic farming, integrated pest management and chemical control. Ten places with protected crops of green beans, cucumber, green pepper and tomato, with different systems of plant protection above mentioned were selected. The major parasitism activity was observed in organic farming (67%) followed by integrated pest management 30%. Chemical control was only 3 %. The higher biodiversity of parasitism was associated to organic farming and integrated pest management. Primary parasitism was observed for the families Aphidiidae and Aphelinidae, the latter being only 2 %. Higher activity of primary parasitism was registered in the cucumber crop with aphid pests of the genus Aphis (Aphis gossypii Glover and Aphis craccivora Koch). The following species of aphids were identified: Aphis craccivora Koch, A. fabae Scopoli, A. gossypii Glover, Aulacorthum solani (Kaltenbach), Macrosiphum euphorbiae (Thomas) and Myzus persicae (Sulzer). The species of primary parasitoids identified were as follows: Aphidius colemani Viereck, A. matricariae Haliday, Lysiplebus fabarum (Marshall), L. testaceipes (Cresson) and Trioxys angelicae (Haliday). Their tritrophic relations are also listed.
