|Abstract: ||The present dissertation is the result of a field work 4 months permanence in the Democratic republic of Sao Tome e Principe. It is about the cocoa‟s production, more precisely about the economical analysis of the different production systems in STP.
Agronomical research is an important pillar of development, and this is particularly true in STP, where cocoa still plays a fundamental part in this country economy. It is particularly important to identify which system is more profitable at production and transformation level associating this goal with a major competiveness at commercialization level.
This is very important because only with a competitive product is the producer able to see returns to his investment and eventually profits increases. That is particularly true in STP, a country with no conditions to compete in terms of mass production and with no capabilities to engage in massive investments.
As an analytic tool of the productions system it was decided to analyse the value chain of each production system present in STP. With this procedue it was possible to identify which are the more important variables in the production chain, and that undoubtedly will be useful at planning future development policies for STP|
