|Abstract: ||Plant cell walls are complex structures, whose main constituents are non-starch
polysaccharides. The monogastric animal does not produce enzymes capable of degrading
these structural polysaccharides and therefore, a low level of cereals may be used. The
incorporation of exogenous enzymes gained increasing importance.
In this study five rye-based treatments were used, where the only variable was the
incorporation or not of xylanases in the diet, into specific periods of the production cycle of
broilers. Body weights and food consumption were monitored, and post mortem parameters
were analyzed, such as weight or length of some gastrointestinal compartments, viscosity
and enzymatic activity of the digesta.
The results show that performance with a rye-based diet with enzyme
supplementation in the first two weeks of the trial, was not significantly diferent (p> 0.05) to
performance with a rye-based diet with enzyme supplementation in the first three weeks and,
during the four week trial.
The results indicate that it is only necessary enzyme supplementation in the first two
weeks of the production cycle of broilers, but more studies should be held in the future.|
