O artigo centra a sua análise no Sahel e no Magreb. O objetivo é avaliar se são regiões em crise, se há problemas comuns a afetar os países que as compõem, se há características específicas que limitam o seu desenvolvimento, se os conflitos se justificam por questões religiosas ou económicas, padrões culturais ou desafios próprios do terreno. O estudo é macro. Discute um contexto de Estados Frágeis com elevada violência, vulnerabilidade económico-social, lutas de poder ou pelos recursos naturais.
The paper focuses on the Sahel and on the Maghreb. The objective is to assess whether these regions are in crisis, with common problems affecting their countries; if there are specific characteristics limiting their development, and conflicts are justified by religious or economic issues, cultural patterns or local challenges. The study is macro. Debates the role of Fragile States with high violence, economic and social vulnerability, power struggles and fighting for natural resources.
