Resumo: The foresight study of the technology needs for the Olive Oil Industry allowed the identification of technological needs that require development. The DELPHI method, a technology foresight method that has been successfully used before in the agrifood sector, formed the basis of the analysis. This method required the participation of experts from the olive oil industry. The application of the method was undertaken in two rounds of surveys both with the participation of 29 experts. The surveys were the same in both rounds, with only one difference: in the second round, the results of the first survey were revealed as a feed-back to the participants. These results showed that the priority themes were those that are connected with questions of the market and commercialization of the olive oil, and those about marketing, in special about passing the information on the benefits of olive oil to the consumer. Important were also the themes on transfer of knowledge and on preserving the genetic pool of the Portuguese olive tree.
