Resumo: The current study presents results from two experiments carried out in two vineyards, one in the region of Lisbon (Dois Portos) and the other one in Dão (Nelas). Some important environmental factors for the vine physiology, variety Touriga Nacional, were studied, with the aim of understanding the impact of climate changes on viticulture. In both experiments the climate data analysed was from the periods of 1971 to 2000 and 2001-2009. Using a phitomonitor with several sensors we determined the effect of the terroir on canopy microclimate, on leaf water potential, gas exchange, leaf and berry temperature and on the berry and trunk diameter. For the period 1971 to 2000 and in the last 10 years there were increases in average temperature in both terroirs. In the Nelas experiment extreme temperatures of 40°C were recorded, which induced a decrease in photosynthesis. In the Dois Portos experiment the maximum leaf temperature was always below 35°C during the period of flowering until harvest, so the decrease of the photosynthetic rate was smaller compared to Nelas. The temperature of the berries in both terroirs reached values above 40°C, wich lead to a high variation in the berry diameter due to water losses by transpiration. Leaf temperatures where higher in Nelas terroir, causing an inhibition of photosynthesis with negative consequences in berry composition, although the yield was similar.
