Resumo: Several analytical methods have been developed for the quantification of condensed tannins, however the time required and complexity of these methods difficult to implement in routine analysis. In this work the objective was to evaluate the application of Fourier transform mid-infrared spectroscopy for the quantification of total condensed tannins, as well as the determination of their polymeric fractions (FIII), oligomeric (FII) and monomeric flavan-3-ols (FI) in 55 red wines. Calibration models were developed using two methodologies as reference: fractionation by reverse phase method and quantification by reaction with vanillin and the method of precipitation with methyl cellulose. The results show that the coefficients of determination obtained by the external validation of the models were less than 0.80, except for the prediction model of polymeric tannins at concentrations greater than 400 mg / L, but this model was not considered robust, because the high standard error of calibration obtained in cross validation (SEC = 512,4 mg / L) and low number of samples in the external validation (n = 5), which leads to the conclusion that in this study the models are not robust enough to estimation of concentrations of total condensed tannins, and fractions FI, FII and FIII.
