Resumo: The rose is one of the most popular flowers in the world, as a garden plant and also because of her history; it was always planted in gardens and their symbolism is related to numerous cultures and religions. The main objective of this study is to analyze the rose, as completely as possible, including the historic and symbolic section, as well as the agronomic section, that includes the planting and conservation processes that garden roses require. Therefore, we could understand that roses have been less planted in general gardens, and we proposed a new concept of planting roses in the garden, so that this flower can become a part of the 21st century gardens. To sustain our proposal, we designed a rose contemporary garden, choosing the best place to do so. We studied the history and evolution of this place, so that we could get the most of the presence of this beautiful flower in the garden. The design was proposed to a garden in Lisbon called Jardim da Parada, in the Tapada da Ajuda, that, as a place with an incredible history, it is also the perfect place to introduce this new concept of rose gardens
